Privacy Policy

Moberly Mainline is a local news and resource site for Moberly and Randolph County, Missouri. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain language on purpose.

Last updated: September 30, 2026

The short version

  • You can read the whole site without giving us anything.
  • We collect an email address only if you type one into the newsletter form.
  • We collect business contact details only if you order advertising.
  • We never see or store your card number. Payments go directly to Stripe.
  • We do not sell your personal information, and we never will.
  • Comments are turned off site-wide, so there is nothing to collect there.

What we collect, and when

If you sign up for the newsletter

We store the email address you type in, and a note of which page you signed up from. That is all. We do not ask for your name, and we do not store your IP address.

Every newsletter we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us and we will remove you.

If you order advertising

The advertising and regional advertising order forms collect your business name, a contact name, a phone number, an email address, and whatever you write in the notes box. We keep that so we can build your ad and stay in touch about it.

Card details are never handled by this website. When you press “Continue to Payment” you are sent to Stripe, which is a separate company that processes the payment on its own secure pages. Your card number is typed on Stripe’s site, not ours. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, the amount, and the contact details you entered — never the card number itself. Stripe has its own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

If you choose the auto-renewing option, Stripe emails you a link to manage or cancel the subscription yourself. You never have to call or email us to cancel.

If you just read the site

Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include visitors’ IP addresses. That is ordinary for any website and is used for security and for keeping the server running. The site itself does not store your IP address.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people read. It tells us how many people came and what they looked at. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not use it to build a profile of you or to target advertising. Google has its own privacy terms at policies.google.com/privacy.

WordPress, the software this site runs on, sets a small number of cookies to keep the site working. Some pages embed video from YouTube — city council meetings, for example — and YouTube sets its own cookies when you play one.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work.

Headlines from other news organizations

Parts of this site link to stories published by other outlets. Those are headlines and links only — we do not reproduce their reporting. Clicking one takes you to that outlet’s own website, which has its own privacy policy and its own cookies. We have no control over what happens once you leave here.

Who we share information with

Nobody, beyond what is needed to run the site. Specifically:

  • Stripe — to take payment for advertising.
  • Google Analytics — to count visits.
  • Our web host and email provider — to keep the site up and deliver mail.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share your email address with advertisers. We would only hand over information if we were legally required to.

How long we keep things

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Advertising records are kept while the ad is running and afterwards for ordinary business and tax purposes. Payment records are held by Stripe under their own retention rules.

What you can ask us to do

Email us and we will:

  • Tell you what information we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete it, unless we are required to keep it for tax or legal reasons.
  • Remove you from the newsletter.

We are a small local operation, not a corporation with a compliance department. Ask plainly and we will sort it out.

Children

This site is general local news and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Security

The site runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) and is kept up to date. No website can promise perfect security, but the most sensitive thing — your card number — never reaches us in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top. Substantial changes will be noted on the site.
