Opening a business in Moberly takes six steps and about $60 in licences. You need a Missouri sales tax ID, a $35 city business licence (renewed every May 1), a $25 county merchant’s licence, and — if you are occupying a building — a commercial occupancy inspection and certificate. The city requires a licence even if your premises are outside the city limits, as long as you do business in town. Free help exists and almost nobody uses it: MAEDC’s Small Biz Helpdesk on 660-263-8811 offers SCORE mentors, planning templates and zoning help. Full sequence: starting a business in Moberly.
