Roads Report: who to call about that pothole

Whose road is it? That is the whole question, and it decides who you call about the pothole. Four different agencies maintain pavement in and around Moberly, and none of them will fix another’s.

Streets inside the city

Moberly Street Department — 2300 N. Morley Street · 660-269-9450
Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Superintendent Tim Grimsley, 660-353-8003.

Potholes, street sweeping, signs, snow routes and city right-of-way. Part of Public Works, 660-269-9451.

State highways

MoDOT — 1-888-ASK-MODOT (888-275-6636), 24 hours.

Anything with a route number is the state’s: U.S. 24, U.S. 63, Route 3, Route JJ, Route M, Route B and the lettered routes generally. Those letters matter — a lettered route is a state road even when it looks like a county lane.

Live closures, crashes and work zones are on MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map, and the full statewide list is in the Traveler Information Report, which can be filtered to Randolph County.

County roads

Randolph County Road & Bridge — through the county at 844-277-6555. Supervisor: Mike Rogers.

Numbered county roads — the “County Road 2350” style addresses — plus county bridges and culverts.

The Special Road District

Moberly Special Road District — 1391 County Road 2310 · 660-263-5494

This is the one people trip over. It is a separate taxing body with its own board, maintaining roads in the area around Moberly that are neither city streets nor county-maintained. If the city and the county both tell you a road is not theirs, this is usually why. The district files agendas in the city’s Agenda Center.

Winter

Each agency plows its own. City snow routes and parking restrictions come out through the city’s Alert Center, which feeds our Alerts box. Randolph County pushes closures and emergency notices through Civic Ready, which will text or call you.

For highway conditions during a storm, MoDOT’s map is the one that updates fastest.
