Little Dixie Regional Libraries: hours, cards, and the telescopes you can borrow

Four branches, one card, no overdue fines — and a lending collection that includes telescopes, fishing rods, blood pressure cuffs, wifi hotspots and pickleball gear.

All four branches share one phone: 660-263-4426. Director is Rachael Grime. little-dixie.lib.mo.us

The branches and their hours

Moberly — 111 N. 4th Street
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Wednesday and Friday 9 to 6
Saturday 9 to 4 · closed Sunday

Huntsville — 102 E. Library Street
Monday 12 to 7 · Tuesday 12 to 5 · Wednesday 9:30 to 5 · Thursday and Friday 12 to 5 · Saturday 9 to 12

Madison — 113 Broadway Street
Monday 12 to 5 · Tuesday 12 to 7 · Wednesday 9:30 to 5 · Thursday and Friday 12 to 5 · Saturday 9 to 12

Paris — 111 N. Main
Monday and Tuesday 12 to 5 · Wednesday 9:30 to 5 · Thursday 12 to 7 · Friday 12 to 5 · Saturday 9 to 12

The pattern is worth learning. Each small branch has exactly one late night — Huntsville Monday, Madison Tuesday, Paris Thursday — and all three open early, at 9:30, on Wednesday.

Getting a card

Free to any resident of Randolph or Monroe County. Bring two forms of ID — one with your photo, one showing you live in the district. Apply at any branch.

Live outside the district? A card is free if your home library has a borrowing agreement with Little Dixie, and $25 a year if not.

The rules

The library does not charge fines for overdue materials. Borrowing simply stops until you bring things back.

30 items per card. Two renewals normally, more at staff discretion. Children’s picture books check out for four weeks.

Printing and copying: 15 cents a page black and white, 50 cents colour. Note you cannot print to the library printers over wifi — you need a library computer.

Computers: four hours a day per person, at every branch. Wifi is free.

Interlibrary loan is open to everyone in the service area; you pay whatever the lending institution charges plus a $3 handling fee.

Test proctoring is free. If you are taking an online course that needs a proctor, this is where you go — you only pay any fax or postage costs.

The Library of Things

Free with a card, alongside the 165,000 ordinary items.

Fishing rods — poles and tackle boxes stocked with hooks, sinkers and bobbers, through a partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation‘s loaner programme. 14 days, renewable. Bring your own bait.

Health and wellness kit — forehead thermometer, blood pressure cuff, scales, pulse oximeter. Two weeks, at all four branches, bought with a $2,500 grant. Not for diagnostic or emergency use, and staff cannot give medical advice.

Wifi hotspots — 14 days, one renewal, age 16 and over, one per household, about 5 GB of data. Lose it and it is $100.

Seed library — up to four packets per card, free, no obligation to return anything. Beans, tomatoes, onions, broccoli, brussels sprouts, basil, carrots, celery, okra, aubergine, peppers, turnips, cucumbers, radishes, kohlrabi, cabbage, kale, parsnip, spinach, chard, lettuce, pumpkin, watermelon, courgette, cantaloupe and squash, plus flowers suited to Missouri.

Connect Kits — dementia and cognitive support kits with therapy pets, games, puzzles, sensory items, books, music and films, on themes from babies and pets to trains, gardening and the ocean. Two weeks.

The Healing Library — and this one deserves saying out loud. Six trauma-recovery kits, at every branch, each with discussion questions, activities, local resources and books: Death of a Pet; Separation & Divorce; Death of a Loved One; Alzheimer’s & Your Family; Incarceration; Sexual Assault & Abuse. Paid for by the Moberly Kiwanis Club, Paris Rotary, Paris Friends of the Library and United Way.

Also lending: telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, disc golf sets (four of them, donated by Moberly Parks & Rec), pickleball equipment, game systems, video and board games, neckties, and ghost detectors.

What you can use from home

hoopla — no waits, no late fees. Libby / Missouri Library 2 Go for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. Comics Plus, unlimited simultaneous use. Kanopy for films.

For genealogy — and this is the strongest part of the collection: HeritageQuest by Ancestry, Fold3 for military records, HeritageHub with US obituaries and death notices from 1704, MyHeritage, FamilySearch and Sanborn maps.

Newspaper archives — including the Moberly Monitor-Index archive, plus the Columbia Tribune, Jefferson City News-Tribune, Kansas City Star, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and USA Today.

Brainfuse live tutoring — including live help with VA benefits. LearningExpress. Chilton automotive manuals. LawDepot legal forms. Missouri permit test practice. Consumer Health Complete, the Merck Manuals and the Merck Veterinary Manual. World Book. Creativebug craft classes.

A login quirk that defeats people: some databases need a prefix in front of your card number. Consumer Health Complete and EBSCOhost want LD; A to Z Maps wants 19000. Ask at the desk.

The library also refers Missourians who cannot use standard print to Wolfner Library, a free postage-paid service.

For children

Family Story Time at Moberly, twice a week, all year — Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Birth to age 5 with an adult, older siblings welcome. Madison has story time Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Reading to Rover — third Monday of every month at Moberly, 6 to 7 p.m., with a certified therapy dog. Aimed at grades K through 5, and it works for reluctant readers.

Lego Club — second Tuesdays, Moberly children’s area, around 6 p.m., ages 5 and up. It runs at the same time as Adult Craft & Chat, and you do not have to attend the adult one to drop a child at the other.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten — self-paced, birth to kindergarten, a prize for every 100 books. Tracked on the Beanstack app or on paper. There is a 100 Books Before Graduation programme too.

Meeting rooms

Free, for not-for-profit groups open to public membership. No admission charges, no collections and no sales may take place. An adult signs a use checklist, and library programmes take priority.

Moberly — seats 40, book a week ahead, $25 refundable deposit if you bring food or drink
Huntsville — seats 50, three days’ notice, $25 refundable deposit with food
Madison — seats 20, three days’ notice
Paris, Roegge Room — seats 100, $100 refundable deposit
Paris, McKamey Room — seats 75, $50 refundable deposit

Moberly and Huntsville rooms are only available during library hours. Paris allows after-hours use, with the key picked up during opening hours, and its McKamey Room is the only space in the system where rummage sales and home-business selling are permitted.

If you need a free room for 100 people in this part of the state, that is the Roegge Room at Paris.

Who pays for it

The library district levies 0.2431 per $100 of assessed valuation in Randolph County — more than the health department and nearly as much as county general revenue. It employs over twenty people and serves a population of more than 32,000 across Randolph and Monroe counties. The catalogue is part of Missouri Evergreen, so your card reaches well beyond these four buildings.

Hours, fees and policies from Little Dixie Regional Libraries’ own pages and operating policy manual, September 2026. Call 660-263-4426 before you drive to a branch.
