Youth sports in Moberly: who runs what, and how to sign up

One fact explains most of the confusion about signing a kid up for sports in Moberly: the city only runs softball. Football, basketball, soccer and baseball are all run by private leagues and non-profits. If you call Parks & Recreation about baseball, they will hand you a different phone number.

Here is who actually runs what.

Softball — run by the city

Moberly Parks & Recreation, 660-269-8705 ext. 2040.

8U recreational — register as an individual
10U recreational — register as an individual
12U competitive — register as a team
14U competitive — register as a team

Registration runs through the city’s online catalog, or by phone or in person at the Parks office. The city publishes its league rule sets for noncompetitive, 8U rec, 10U rec and 12U rec.

Games are at Howard Hils Athletic Complex, 2002 West Highway 24, and on the Rothwell Park fields. A zero tolerance policy applies: a first infraction is a minimum two-game expulsion, a second removal is a season-long ban, and reinstatement is at the Director’s discretion. This applies to parents in the bleachers, not just players.

Baseball

Moberly Midget League

manager@moberlymidgetleague.org · moberlymidgetleague.org

8U coach pitch, 10U rookie, 12U American, 14U National.

2027 league fees are $110 per player, per the league’s own posting.

This is a regional league, not a Moberly-only one — Glasgow, Monroe County, Centralia and Salisbury all field teams. The 2026 champions were the 14U Spartan Bombers, the 12U Centralia Thunder and the 10U Salisbury Panthers.

YMCA youth baseball

660-263-3600 · joeh@raymca.org · midmoymca.org

Little YMCA Baseball, ages 4 and 5. Advanced T-ball and live pitch, ages 6 and 7. Pitching machine and live pitch, ages 8 to 11.

For a four-year-old, this is the entry point — the Midget League starts at 8U.

Soccer

Moberly Area Soccer Association · moberlysoccer.org

Established in 1989. Non-profit, volunteer-run. Plays at Shepherd Fields, 1438 South Morley Street — land donated to the city by Dan and Dave Shepherd in 2020 specifically so soccer would have a permanent home. The city owns the ground; MASA operates it and its board sets league policy.

Board: Sandra Samuels (president), Tonia Schlecht (vice president), Hillary Appling (treasurer), Niki Decker (secretary), Tina McGee (registrar), Mike Lucas (digital administrator).

Football and cheerleading

Little Spartans Youth Football & Cheerleading · littlespartansfootball.com

Registration for both football and cheer runs through the site, which also handles the Sam Richardson 12th Man Scholarship. The organization does not publish a phone number or address — the website is the contact point.

The YMCA

Randolph Area YMCA, 1000 Shepherd Brothers Boulevard, Moberly
660-263-3600 · welcomedesk@raymca.org · branch page

This is the county’s indoor recreation center, and the only year-round swimming pool in Randolph County.

Facility hours
Monday to Thursday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Friday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Indoor pool hours — note these are shorter and split
Monday to Thursday 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m.
Friday 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
Saturday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

Closed New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

Programs include year-round swimming, swim lessons, aqua aerobics, RAY winter youth basketball for pre-K and grades 1 through 3, pitching machine baseball, and afterschool programs. Part of the Mid-Mo YMCA association, with branches in Boonville and Glasgow.

One caution: the association’s own homepage lists the address as 1000 Kwix Road while the branch page says 1000 Shepherd Brothers Boulevard. It is almost certainly a street renaming, but if you are driving somewhere new, call first.

If money is the obstacle

The city runs a financial assistance program giving economically disadvantaged residents access to swim lessons and recreation sports programs. There is a scholarship form on the city’s site.

Nobody advertises this and it is not automatic. Ask at the Parks office, 660-269-8705 ext. 2040.

Free practice space

Worth repeating from our rental rates guide: all city ball fields except Green 3, 4 and 5 and Red 1 and 2, and all courts, are free for practice. Only two practices can be booked at the same time. Coaches paying to practice are paying for nothing.

Other organized recreation

NoMo Bowhunters / NOMO Archery Club — hosts the Rinehart R100 3D archery shoot in Rothwell Park, a full weekend of life-size targets staged from the Lodge. The club is named as an active partner in the city’s master plan; we have not found published contact details, so ask at the Parks office.

Moberly Friends of the Park Foundation — the 501(c)(3) that runs the Magic City Line miniature railroad and funded the parent-child swing at Candy Cane City.

Magic City Master Gardeners — maintain the maze garden beside the mini train.

Registration windows, fees and board members change every year. Verified against each organization’s own published pages. Running a youth program we have missed? Tell us and we will add it.
