Moberly tourism: who does what, the annual calendar, and where to find this weekend

Tourism in Moberly runs on two tracks, which confuses people. One is a city body that hands out grant money. The other is the Chamber’s marketing arm. If you are putting on an event, you will deal with both.

Visit Moberly

The Moberly Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, run by the Chamber of Commerce.
211 West Reed Street, Moberly, MO 65270 · 660-263-6070
tourism@moberlychamber.com · moberly.com

Tourism Advisory Council

The city body, created by City Council after voters approved a 4 percent hotel-motel tax. It awards grants from that tax to events that bring visitors to Moberly.

Meets the second Tuesday of January, April, July and October at City Hall, 101 W. Reed Street · 660-269-8705 ext. 2062
Members: Cristina Wright, Heather Cleavinger, Jonique Barnett, Alanna Hughes, with one seat vacant.

If you want grant money for an event, the practical requirement is to meet with the Chamber’s tourism specialist three to six months before the event date. Proposals go to the Tourism Advisory Committee at City Hall.

The annual calendar

What’s on this week

The single most useful thing in town for this is the community calendar the Chamber maintains. It pulls together theatre shows, Parks & Rec events, Chamber events, the farmers market, ribbon cuttings and nonprofit fundraisers in one place, with the organizer named on each entry.

Running an event? Submit it to that calendar and it reaches everyone who checks it.
